Howdy folks,
Back in the old days, music provided entertainment for the town folks at a square dance, or hay ride, or any other doin's in the town. But it also was used by the drovers as they rode the lonesome praire trails with the steers. At night, the cattle might get restless and the chances of them spookin' and startin' a stampede were high, so the cowboys would sing to them. Though it might not have been the most melodic noise in the world, the cattle apparently enjoyed it, and it no doubt kept the riders awake and alert. Nowadays, music is mainly used for our enjoyment. Groups like The Sons of the Pioneers, The Riders of the Purple Sage, or more recent groups like The Sons of the San Joaquin, remind us of the days of the cowboy, and the indian, and the cattle roamin' the range. So feel free to talk about any group or songs you want to, just so it's western.
Have fun,
Cowboy Justin |
