charlie says "ya got it hank hey jake slade and freguson wake up were goin to the flats and the hotel there" hank rides abck to the cafe and gets casey and red hank says "now we ride back to the ranch and wait for the fireworks to start hidin in the shadows is one of barcrofts men who goes back to carter and says "hank and the others will be at the ranch waitin for some action to start" carter says "what type of action" the guy says "well hank didnt say" carter says "go back to yur post ill be in the flats later" hank and the others have reached the bar x and bardwell is waiting on the porch for hank he says "whats this about havin a cowhand lay a hand on my daughter" hank says "ya hired me to keep things safe here for her i had an errand in the flats and it was dangerous for her to be there" bardwell says "well she can be headstrong at that but next time yu carry her to the house and not the other cowhand got it" hank looks up and sees taylor snickerin hank says "ok then ill just drop her like he did is that all sir" bardwell says "and another thing about that party ya better be there since she invited the whole town up here" hank says "i will be there"

hank then goes to his line shack which is nearby feeds duke whos got some loose shoes he hears someone walkin up and says "whos there" taylor says "its me taylor" hank says "a lot of trouble ya got me into with ya father here im tryin my best to keep things from falling apart and now hes mad at me cause i had nick drop ya on the porch next time ill make shur i drop ya there myself i told him" taylor laughs and says "hes not mad just concerned for me" hank says "well now all this ridin and duke got loose shoes ill have to back to the flats in the mornin now get some rest cause yur goin in to get some stuff with me we leave at 7 am on the dot" taylor says "ok hank im a grown woman and ya dont have to get this way" hank says "what way im askin ya to come the flats with me" taylor says "ok ill make shur im up at 6 30am" hank says "its late now ill walk ya back to the house"

they arrive at the main house hank says "nite taylor" and hugs her tayloir says "nite hank" and goes inside casey whos been watchin from afar says as hank approachs "yur sweet on that taylor arent ya" hank says "well yeah ok now heres what ya do follow us as we go down the flats have gus tripp and the pup with ya also have nat raymond take the buckboard so have that team hitched up before ya go to bed now we leave here at 7 or earlier so dont forget" casey is busy writin down those instructions and says finally "ok whats the buckboard for" hank says "well we are goin shoppin for the party on wednesday and taylor has taken it on herself to invite the whole town" casey whistles loudly and says "what about the flats" hank says "well thats where ya and charlie come in yur goin to go awol tuesday and meander down the flats got that meet up with charlie and his gang and do as he says on wednesday" casey says "yur to tense about this" hank says "well also ya got to find claire at the land office and give her this envelope dont open it" hank hands casey an envelope casey says "ok" as he puts it in his hat

hank says "get to work im goin to sleep" hank goes to line shack and lays down and goes to sleep for a few hours its sat mornin about 6 am hank wakes up and goes to the brook bathes in the leanto he built and dries off dresses and walks up to the main house gets duke saddled and taylor finally walks down and says "what was all the noise about with the cowboys last night they got the buckboard and a team ready" hank says "well i dont know why dont ya ask them ill get star saddled and well leave" hank saddles star and goes to the bunkhouse to have breakfast hank says "casey whyd ya wake taylor" casey says "we was quiet cant help if she was awake" hank says "give us 20 minutes then and then follow us down to the flats"

hank and taylor then leave for the flats hank says "well ya know im goin up top" taylor says "ok so am i and im wondering what yur up to since we didnt take the buckboard and team" hank says "well ya know im not much for drivin that crate and its to noisy might wake up the critters around here" hank hears a chirp and says "lets go back strangers around" taylor says "whats this ya want to go back" hank as he turns duke around says "come on or yull have company yu wont like" taylor sees some people approaching and spurs star as hank does the same hank says "go back get casey hell know whats happening hurry now" hank dismounts and runs for the cover of a group of trees shootin as he runs he flops down by a log and notices someone has beaten him there hank says "wet bird was that yu before" wet bird says "yes" the others are still shottoin and one bullet gets close to hanks head he replies by shootin at the muzzle flash and the guy yells as he drops the gun hank says "wet bird we cant let em get by us ya know" wet bird nods as he lets an arrow fly it hits one of the guys in the leg he yells "its the indians and hank" the guys withdraw ands return to the flats where one reports to carter he says "well hank must have indians now also givin him a hand why didnt ya tell us that" carter says "well ya didnt need to know and now ya do so what happened" the guy says "they drove us off" carter says "hmm ok well they got to come back down the trail later"

hank and taylor make it down to the flats without further incident hank says "lets stop at the marshals office" taylor nods yes hank knocks on the door ross says "its open" hank and taylor walk in ross says "where ya been to many gunfighters in town right got my hands full with em at the saloon" hank says "well carters gang is still up to their old tricks of ambushin in that cut" ross says "yeah ive been aware that theres even some indians up that way now watch the trail"

as hank and the marshal a sniper aims at hank from across the street thru the open window he fires hank drops to the floor the bullet narrowly missing him the guy fires again taylor has already dropped to the floor marshal ross has also dropped to the floor he says "hank take him out if ya can" hank says "ok" hank draws the guys fire again and shoots aiming at the muzzle flash the guys hit in the hand and drops the gun

th guy yells and then slides to the ground hank runs over to where he saw the guy but the guy isnt there hank hears some movement and sees a log comin thru the air at his head he ducks as it sails over hank sees charlie and yells "get that guy for me charlie if yur able" charlie and subdues the semi injured guy and says "hold still ya varmint"

hank walks over and says "thanks charlie" turnion his attention to the injured guy hank says "ya know i dont know what this is all about but rest assured ill find out" the guy grimaces in pain and says "well hank yull be dead and the rest of that ranch crew will be also soon ya can make shur of that also"
